Last Blog before Quilt Market

07 Oct 2009

Last Blog before quilt market! I can give my sewing machine a rest for a few minutes. One of my favorite animated movies is "Finding Nemo"  and in that movie there is great line by the fish, Dora.  "Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming"  is what Dora says to Marlin, (Nemo's Dad) when he is getting discouraged about the distance he has to travel to find his son Nemo......yes, I have said that line a lot the last few weeks.....Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.  Swimming through Fabric.  We have so many great, fun, unique things to show at quilt market. I wish I had time to show pictures, but that will have to wait until after market. I have to keep sewing, sewing, sewing.   Here is a few updates.

First...We have "Wanna be a Cowboy" in stock. Everyone should have their pre-orders by now. This cute line is a must have for any 'Wanna be a Cowboy" boy or girl. We have had a great time incorporating this line into our booth; how fitting is it that in we are showing this in Houston, Texas.

We just received yesterday our second and LAST shipment of "Be Merry" Christmas.  If you want Christmas fabric, buy now because when we are out, we are out until next year.

Lastly, I wanted to give a quick update on our last two lines of 2009, "Bloom and Grow" and "Sublime".  We had these lines shipped directly to us from Korea, just to show at Quilt Market. I have to say they are FANTASTIC lines.  "Bloom and Grow" shows well on storyboards, and it is darling on fabric. However, Sublime totally surprised me..It is sooooo cool. It has a funky look that we love and we can't wait to show you the actual fabric samples and quilts made out of this line.  Our website pictures and storyboards do not do this line justice.  So... to all of you fabric lovers I will post pictures after market...but if you are going to Houston stop by our booth and say hello.  You will be in for a treat!

Here is a teaser.... Tee Pee and slippers.

Riley Blake News

22 Sep 2009

Wanna be a Cowboy news..... due to circumstances beyond our control this line has been delayed for another week.  That sounded way too calm..(scream) .....seriously, we can't wait to get our hands on this fabric, we have many projects to make before quilt market!  Thanks for your patience, and  "Wanna be a Cowboy" will ship out as soon as possible.

Speaking of fabrics we would like to get our hands on, here is a sample of  "Bloom and Grow" by Zoe.  Another great line from our friends at My Minds Eye.  Look for a delivery date the end of October.

bloom and grow pillow (225x300)

Shari Butler made this cute pillow out of our "Bloom and Grow" strike-offs.  She embellished it with our own Riley Blake velvet ric-rac.... which, as planned, is a perfect color match. Shari used the green, orange and brown ric-rac.

Who is Shari Butler?  Shari Butler is the founder and designer of Doohikey designs, who just happens to have designed our last fabric line of 2009...."Sublime".  We are going to end the year with a bang.  "Sublime" has it all... bright, rich, bold colors combined with an absolutely unique style. This line will be available the end of November.

Enjoy Today

10 Sep 2009

We hope you all enjoyed your labor day.....and the last bites of summer. I love summer food and am already mourning the end of it, not to mention our long warm summer days. Living in Alpine we are spoiled with fresh produce from the local farmers.  In the past few weeks we have indulged the most succulent peaches I think we have ever had.....they are drip down your chin good.  Sweet corn is always a favorite.  Now the tomatoes and apples are starting to be harvested and my pantry is overflowing with fresh produce.  I will share a family favorite recipe of fresh salsa.  It is a great way to use all of those garden tomatoes.

8 fresh tomatoes (or 4 Large home-grown tomatoes)
1 bunch of cilantro
1 onion
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp, chili powder
2-4 serrano or jalapeno peppers (depending on desired heat) I usually remove the seeds.
Put in food processor and blend serve fresh or refrigerate for up to 5 days

My kids will not touch tomatoes, but will eat a gallon of this with tortilla chips.

Well no time to be meloncholy about the change of seasons and actually my husband looks forward to this time of year.  I am just going to enjoy the present and I will write about our four new lines tomorrow.
